Our first playlist – and some more figure skating music talks

OMG guess what

We have a spotify account! You can already play it while reading, but I just couldn’t start with a regular hello. I’m so excited, because I’ve worked hard on curating a bunch of different playlists for figure skaters specifically and I’m excited to start sharing them!
but first a quick recap of what I’ve been up to. To be honest end of semester in university is no joke. I’m doing school projects up to 10 hours currently, but I’m almost done, which means – hello summer! I’m so excited to finish this semester, because this means I will graduate in a year! For those, who don’t know I study graphic design. It’s my second degree (first was law) and it’s super fun, but very time consuming. So besides skating, managing my life and family, JIV, I do have school as well and sometimes it can feel a bit overwhelming. But hey, I’m almost done and it’s all worth it in the end! Just need to remind myself to take some breathers. Which reminds me, have you already seen our new series – #mondaymotivationseriesbyjiv. I started this a week ago basically to choose weekly mantras and follow them throughout the week. I decided to share them via JIV just to inspire you to do the same! Anyway feeling motivated, let’s move on to todays topic.

A little more on chore

Over my years of doing choreography for so many different skaters and styles I’ve come to understanding, that it’s always good to try something new. I’ve seen so many skaters blossom, when they decide to challenge themselves with a new style of music. Do keep in mind that you should still choose a song you really-really like. But maybe choose something you never thought you could pull off, you’d be surprised how much you might progress, just by pushing yourself out of your comfort zone. And as a special benefit, you’ll be able to skate to a song you really like!

If I don’t have a favourite song or idea

That’s fine. We’re all different and I know plenty skaters who never care what they skate to. They want to put out good elements and are just less sentimental and emotional. In these cases it’s good to ask for advice from those who know how you skate and what you can do. You never know what someone might offer. And when building the program, I recommend building it focusing on the best parts in your skating. If you’re strong in jumps, put more effort into allowing a lot of speed before jumps. If you’re better at spins-highlight them. Don’t place spins in corners where you can’t see them, best is always to put on the center line in different places. If you’re not so good at gaining speed, put more effort into body movements and small steps and communication with the judges, that’s a little trick to hide the fact that maybe the skating skills need some work..

And if you really have no idea what to skate to

Then head over to our Spotify NOW and listen to my personal choreo playlist. Aghhh I’m so excited to finally start putting some playlists out there for all of you to enjoy. I have plenty in store for you, but I decided to upload our choreo playlist first, because if you’re still unsure on what style to choose, maybe my playlist can help you. And oh my god please share your favourite songs with me via instagram DM so I can keep updating my list! I’m obsessed with music and love creating playlists so this is very exciting for me.

Anyway I hope you love the list and see you soon ❤️
